August Means Circuit Training for the HockeyOT Athletes in Redondo Beach, California

We have a number of athletes that have made the Redondo Beach area home for the summer months so that they can train with the HockeyOT summer program. Many of the players start getting 4-5 ice sessions per week in August, so we usually start to taper down the strength training to 3 sessions per week. That does not mean that we decrease the intensity. In fact, August is usually the most intense training of the summer! We like to use circuit training of 10-14 exercises done in 30-45 second intervals (similar to the length of a hockey shift). Each of the exercises trains a hockey-specific component. In this circuit training video, shot in Redondo Beach on August 2, 2012, you will see tough guy Kip Brennan perform the following exercises:

1) lateral 220-lb weighted sled drag

2) 86-lb landmine rotation lift

3) 1-arm box push up

4) alternate foot jump rope

5) 5-yard crossover to shuffle with weighted hockey stick

6) 35-lb VIPR punches

7) 1-arm 35-lb kettlebell cuban press

8) skater hop jump rope

9) skater hop with weighted stick

10) burpees

11) side plank with lateral leg lift

12) boxer shuffle jump rope

Each of the exercises were performed for 30-seconds with a 30-second rest, except the 1-sided exercises which are performed for 30-seconds each side. Keep in mind that this is a very difficult circuit that is being completed by very fit hockey players!
