Ethan Moreau Talks About His Retirement from Playing Hockey and What is Next

17-year veteran of the NHL, Ethan Moreau retired last month. His NHL career began with the Chicago Blackhawks as a first round pick in 1994 (14th overall). He played 4 seasons for the Blackhawks and became their alternate captain before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers where he played for 11 seasons, eventually becoming their team captain. He played 1 season in Columbus as an alternate captain before playing his final season for the Los Angeles Kings. Including the playoffs he played 974 games, with 296 points and 1162 penalty minutes. Not too bad for a boy from Huntsville, Ontario!

Of course, his career didn’t finish the way he would have liked. He was assigned to Manchester, the LA Kings AHL affiliate, in December 2011 after playing in the first 26 games of the 2011-2 season. This was a tough assignment for a player that had been a leader for 3 NHL teams already in his career. Making matters worse, he had been playing with post-concussion symptoms for many of the 26 games, making the demotion to Manchester even tougher. In the end, Ethan didn’t end up playing another game in the 2011-2 season and the LA Kings pulled it together at the end of the season to go on and win the trophy that eluded Ethan in his career, the Stanley Cup.

Along with being able to put more time and energy into HockeyOT.com (Ethan is one of the owners of the website and still holds some of the testing records!), he has recently accepted a scouting position with the Montreal Canadiens. With his level of intensity and commitment to the game, you can be rest assured that his quest to be part of a Stanley Cup winning team continues!
