Los Angeles Kings back-up goaltender, Jonathan Bernier had his day with the Stanley Cup in Laval, Quebec and he took the opportunity to let it be known that he doesn’t want to be a back-up next season. Since the Kings signed their starting goalie Jonathan Quick, to a $58-million, 10-year contract extension, Bernier has become the Kings permanent back-up. Bernier has 1-year left on a contract with the Kings, but at 23 years of age, he would become a restricted free agent if the Kings were not able to sign him to a contract extension. Bernier only played 16 games last season with the Kings after playing 25 games the previous season. His statistics are very good and he could provide a great tandem with Quick if the Kings are willing to give him more starts for the 2012-13 season. Of course, if he is unwilling to be the back-up to Quick, then the Kings might consider trading him rather than having a disgruntled player in the dressing room.
